ClearSky Rehabilitation Hospital of Rio Rancho

Tenant Improvement and Ground-Up Building

This 33,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art rehabilitation center is designed to attract patients and visitors, increase the efficiency of the staff by improving flow and care team integration, as well as engagement from staff and the community. The natural daylit corridors and interior design lends to an environment of care and wellness.

Designing the hospital followed a systematic process that initially aimed to create an assisted living facility; however, during construction, the intended end user withdrew from the project. As a result, the decision was made to repurpose the facility as a skilled nursing facility. The process began with studies and analyses to gather information about the hospital's requirements, taking into account patient demographics and budget considerations. During the pre-design phase, collaboration with stakeholders defined the needs and established a budget, taking into account the shift to skilled nursing. The design phase focused on developing plans tailored to the specialized needs of skilled nursing, which involved incorporating specialized medical equipment and infrastructure into the design. Detailed construction documents were created accordingly to guide the construction process. Regular inspections and issue resolution occurred during project closeout, ensuring compliance with skilled nursing regulations and standards. Maintaining open communication with stakeholders was a priority throughout the process, as this ensured that the hospital ultimately met the objectives of providing high-quality, skilled nursing care, despite the change in initial plans.

This project demonstrates Aria’s ability to construct a phased building project that had many technical and specialized elements including FF&E, multiple governing agencies and committees and a specialized function. Coordination efforts required critical documentation to the owner and state agencies during each phase of design to meet the specialized characteristics and planning requirements for hospital design.
